i have been on the afternoon shift for the past few days. God,,, i wondered why there were so many traumas these days. They were either fell from height or road accidents. Maybe the weather was too warm and workers tend to get a bit dehydrated and giddy after spending a qood quality of time under the blazing sun. Well then there were rainy days which was when the roads became another highly dangerous place. After performing mutliple x rays for accidents as such, you would feel very drained out. My back ached due to the strength i applied to move the x ray tube around for the various projections as well as the constant bending down and lifting up to check the cassette placement. There was only one conclusion after the procedure. That is dead tired!!! ha ha ha.
Everytime after portable x rays be it in resus or over at the wards, the processing of images will always be a surprised coz some of the cases, it was really done with the blind man method truly based on estimation and exposed hoping that we had captured what they want in the image. Sigh...
It's good though when you are mentally drained and someone came along and give a pat on your shoulders to tell u to liven up,,, this is not the end of the world. That served as a wake up call in the sense that the action sort of like reminded you that there are still many cases out there waiting for you to complete and you need to feel recharged to face yet another challenge outside of the resus rooms. It's always never ending stories,,, and cases happen in hospitals. Some stories repeated itself each day and you could help but feel sorry for the party.
There are some issues i still could not come to terms with. Why are the nurses so afraid of radiation? i am not talking about those working in ICUs, they are all very nice and also partly due to the fact that there are too many lines to look after so they have to assist us to ensure that all their monitoring lines are intact while we performed the portable x ray procedures. I am utterly pissed with those working in the normal wards. Whenever the portable x ray machine was pushed into the ward, the nurses will all walk away very briskly and hid in their respective places without asking if i required any assistance or not. They actually slowed down the whole procedure especially when the patient is not mobile and required assistance. If they could help out , i could position the patient in a shorter time rather than me struggling with the patient and trying not to hurt them. Sometimes i just wanted to ask the nurse if the patient could sit up for x rays or cannot be sit up, the nurses also refused to give me chance to ask and they just direct me to the student nurses on attachment. What is this !!!!! ... you mean student nurses are not as precious as them. They could just hid inside the room and the students just left them outside. They are setting a bad examples. What's wrong with just staying around and assist us in lifting the patient who are not very mobile or too big size to be handled alone. We are also fellow colleagues, you dun want to hurt your back,, i also dun want to hurt mine. It is not as if that i dun wait for u to hide when i do my x rays. i will always make sure that the crowd is cleared before i made exposure. At least the nurses could help to disperse the visitors in the same cubicle ... this will also help to speed up the procedure as well rather than i informed the visitors ,,after i positioned the patient, the visitors still refused to leave the room and i have to spend another 5 minutes getting the visitors to go out before i can make exposures. Then have to wait for nurses doing something in another bed,,,,,,, all these required waiting time and we sometimes dun have the time to wait coz we have other urgent cases to do as well. They just want their cases to be done and dun bother about what happen after that. I am very mad with the nurses in the normal wards. They are very inconsiderate and very self centered. They dun even care about teamwork and even about patients sometimes. I dun blamed them coz they have many many things to cope with so much so that they dun have time to take care of the patients. why dun they try to push the machine around the entire hospital and have to fight lift with the visitors especially during visiting hours. Of course, we have to let the visitors go first coz they are considered external customers. Then the pager would beep non stop ,,,they just expected us to fly there. Not even a word of thank you from them. For those nice ones, i will always thank them for the assistance but normally they dun even give proper polite instructions..... always give a black and commanding look. These makes the working environment a very yucky place to work. I just hate that!!!!!!!!!!
