i was just reading an article about conservation published in Scientific American october 2007 issue. How much effort are we contributing to conserve the world from its depleting resources, its everchanging climate conditions etc etc ?
Personally, i dun really play an active role in "going green". i waste lots lots of paper when i was working on my reports in the last job. However, i always make sure that both sides were utilized fully before dumping them to the recycle bin if there is. If not available, the used papers would be discarded with the usual rubbish or at least shredded if i have the time. Guess now i dun really need to waste so many papers now that i dun deal with reports anymore. However, the working environment still generates lots of paper wastage. All the repeated forms printed for one request are redundant. Do we need so many forms? And due to medico legal issues, the forms could not be reused on the unprinted side. At least in our own department, we prints forms on double sided so that we could reduce the usage of the papers. Up in the ward, no lor .... everytime i see the single sided forms i would shake my head. Again, they could put the blame to AURORA. The filmless system which still requires our side to generate forms at this stage coz the workflow of the filmless system is still not ironed out yet.
i loved to take cab rather than taking the bus. However, i prefer to take the mrt compared to taking the bus. MRT is more environmental friendly compared to bus. No emmission of exhaust fumes but also contribute to the green house effect in another way. Have been wanting to get a car, but environmental friendly car is very expensive. So i am still waiting for my ideal car to buy.
so just how much each and everyone could do to save our planet. With the increased number of natural disasters happened in the recent years, these are signs that our earth is getting sick and the disease spread like cancer cells causing metatases all over the rest of her "body". It may be too late to salvage the already damaged organs but we could still work out a way to prolong her lifespan in a less destructive means.
At the end of the day, we still need to balance the ecosystem. Our long forgotten food chain lessons in school. Everything will return to the nature at the end. Our consumptions of food , our genetically modified food supply and dosmetic animals, they would affect the ecosystem in one way or another. Either they helped to maintain or destoryed the balance we are looking for.
so the problem currently we need to tackle is how do we go about doing that and not just sit around and wait for experts to do that. Right ?
